As a response to a question by Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, truly, truly, I say unto you, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:3-5).
In his epistle to Galatians, the apostle Paul wrote, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision (Jew) means anything, nor uncircumcision (Gentile), but a new creature (Galatians 6:15).
The words “new creature” mean a changed person.
To be born of water indicates the importance of baptism. Christians must be baptized. But the process of change to be a new creature truly begins when the Holy Spirit enters into a person’s life and that happens only when we believe (faith) with all our heart that Jesus is the Son of God whom God has raised from the dead, when we live a life of obedience to His Word, and when we make Him the most important person in our life. That’s when this change begins in a person. We cannot change ourselves, the Holy Spirit only is able to make the change in us.
If your life hasn’t changed or if people who know you didn’t say something like, “you have changed”, that would be because you have not opened yet your heart and all the areas of your life to the Lord Jesus, to make Him the most important person in everything that pertains to you. The life of a born again person, shows this change, and a desire for the things of God. Without this change or becoming a new creature, we cannot enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
