A couple of days ago, I read in the local paper the following: “the United States economy came to screeching halt,” and this according to the story, is the result of the coronavirus pandemic. During the last few days, millions of workers had lost their jobs. Also, according to reports, as of March 12, 2020, the US stock market has lost 11.5 trillion dollars in capitalization after multiple drops since peaking on February 19, 2020.

But how is that possible for an economy with a GDP of approximately 22 trillion dollars, and with such an impressive performance as reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics that at the end of February 2020, had an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, and an employment increase of 273,000?

To me that’s amazing how quickly things that seem so mighty, that we put so much of our trust on them, such as the US economy and the US stock market, can lose so much, and so quickly, of their worthiness and all of this, because of a virus. Truly amazing.

And so, what is there in this world that we could possibly place our trust, be secured, and hope that in the future there will be jobs, prosperity and most importantly peace in people’s hearts? What is there in this world that we can depend upon for those important things? A particular type of government, a strong economy, or a particular leader? Nothing, it’s all temporary.

But we can trust in God, the Creator of all things, who is forever and will never change as we read in the Bible, “For I am the LORD, I change not …” (Malachi 3:6). And the Almighty God has made available to us His peace and everything we need through His Holy Son Jesus. God’s peace brings rejoicing and hope in the heart of a man, even in the midst of the worst catastrophe. Therefore, we can depend on God for everything we need.

Having the Lord Jesus Christ, our “true God” as the apostle John wrote (I John 5:20) in our life will bring peace, security and hope, because we know by faith, He has every situation we encounter in His hands.

If He is not in your life, please know that He will come only if you allow Him. Contrary to what many may believe, He doesn’t require anything in particular from us, but that only we open our heart and life to Him, and to believe with all our might, that He is the Son of God whom the Father had raised from the dead.

The Lord Jesus spoke the following words of profound importance to the apostle John that we can read in the book of Revelation where it says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”  (Revelation 3:20). From personal experience, I found these words to be absolutely true.

This door the Lord is referring to, is your heart, and only you can open it. If you do, He will come and fill you with His presence as He has promised. Talk to Him today through prayer and invite Him in your life. The Lord Jesus is a Living person, He can hear you. Not only He will give you hope during these difficult times, but also we need to remember, He is the only Way to eternal life (John 14:6).

So, talk to Him about what you are going through and invite Him in your life today, because we don’t know what may happen tomorrow.  Amen.
